Patna: To mark World First Aid Day, the Health Centre of the Department of Home Science at Patna Women’s College organized a “Hands-on Training” programme in Carmel Hall. The event aimed to equip students with essential first aid skills and was led by Dr. Khursheed Alam, an orthopaedic surgeon and medical officer at the Central Dispensary, Patna University.

The session began with Dr. Alam discussing the necessary tools and antiseptics that should be included in a basic first aid kit. He then demonstrated how to dress wounds on different parts of the body, showing students practical techniques they could apply in real-life situations. Dr. Alam also demonstrated how to create slings from commonly available household items. He further guided the students through the use of crepe bandages for managing various types of fractures and sprains, encouraging hands-on participation throughout the session.

Khushboo Kumari, an M.A. Semester I student, moderated the event, while Archana Kumari, a B.A. Semester V student, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was organized by Dr. Shazia Husain, Incharge of the Health Centre and Assistant Professor in the Department of Home Science. The entire programme was held under the guidance of Dr. Sister M. Tanisha A.C., Vice-Principal and Head of the Department of Home Science, Patna Women’s College.
