Patna: Patna Women’s College (PWC) hosted an inaugural ceremony on Friday, to mark the introduction of three new academic programmes. The event commenced with a devotional song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Sister M Rashmi A.C., the Principal of PWC.
Dr. Jessie Sushil Modi, Head of the PG Department of Education at Patna University, was welcomed as the distinguished guest. In a gesture of gratitude, she was presented with a shawl and a plant sapling by Dr. Sister M Rashmi A.C.
The Principal’s welcome address highlighted the significance of the new academic programmes: B.Sc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, B.Sc (Hons) in Data Science and Analytics, and B.A. (Hons) in Fashion Designing. She proudly noted that PWC is the first degree college in the state to offer these undergraduate courses.
Following the Principal’s speech, Dr. Bhawna Singh, Dean of Information and Technology Systems and Head of the Department of MCA, provided insights into the new courses and their relevance in the field of information technology, expressing gratitude for the Principal’s unwavering support.
Dr. Jessie Sushil Modi spoke about the impact of Artificial Intelligence and the importance of technological advancements, extending her best wishes to the new students. She praised the Principal for her innovative approach, which keeps PWC at the forefront of educational institutions in the state.
The respective heads of the newly inaugurated departments introduced the new courses and their potential career opportunities. Dr. Priyadarshini, Head of the Department of Data Science and Analytics, discussed the specifics of the Data Science course. Poonam A Lakra, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Dr. Shemushi Ityalam Madhu, Head of the Department of Fashion Designing, emphasized the various career paths available to students.
Geetanjali Choudhary, a faculty member of the Department of Fashion Designing, was introduced as the course coordinator for the B.A. (Hons) in Fashion Designing. Following this, insights were shared by students from each newly enrolled batch of the UG 2024-2028 programmes.
The event was moderated by Ms. Poonam A Lakra. Dr. Priyadarshini concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks. The event was attended by Dr. Sister M Jincy A.C, Superior Avila Convent; Dr. Sister M Tanisha A.C, Vice Principal of PWC; Dr. Amrita Chowdhary, IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of Geography; as well as esteemed Deans, Heads of various departments, faculty members, and students of the inaugural batches.
