Patna: The Department of English, in collaboration with the Lit Wit Literary Society of Patna Women’s College, organised a ‘Meet the Author’ session featuring author Zeyaur Rahman and his book A River Remembers at Carmel Hall on October 1.
The event, coordinated by Dr Deepika Tiwari, Coordinator of the Lit Wit Literary Society, provided students and faculty members an opportunity to explore the novel’s literary themes and narrative dimensions.
Students Present Critical Readings
Student analysts from UG and PG Semester III presented critical readings of the novel from different perspectives.
Deepanjali examined the dynamics between the characters, while Anushka explored the novel’s structure through the lens of the Bildungsroman.
Kanishtha analysed the river as the central metaphor of the work, highlighting its symbolic and narrative significance. Stuti examined the novel through a diasporic perspective, focusing on themes of displacement, identity, memory and belonging.

Faculty Bring Novel To Life
Faculty members also contributed to the programme through readings from the book.
Dr Sahar Rahman, Head of the Department of English, along with Dr Shahla Rehana and Anisha Singh, read selected excerpts from A River Remembers. Their readings complemented the students’ critical presentations and added to the literary atmosphere of the event.
The programme was anchored by Aroyna, who guided the session through its various segments.

Author Interacts With Students
The programme culminated in an interaction with Zeyaur Rahman, who shared insights into the creative process behind A River Remembers, as well as its literary themes and underlying ideas.
The interaction provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with the author and gain a deeper understanding of the work.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sana, who acknowledged the contributions of the author, faculty members, student presenters, organisers and others involved in the programme.
