Patna Women’s College Continues UG Orientation Programme With Focus on Values, Environment and Student Engagement

The second day of the orientation programme introduced first-year undergraduate students to the college’s values, campus opportunities and academic culture.

Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), affiliated with Patna University, continued its Orientation Programme for newly admitted Semester I undergraduate students on July 2. The day’s sessions focused on introducing students to the institution’s vision, academic culture, extracurricular opportunities and core values.

The programme began with the College Anthem, led by Dr. Sister Nelsa A.C., Assistant Professor in the Department of English.

Introduction to the College’s Vision

Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History and Cultural Coordinator, delivered a presentation on the college’s vision, mission and objectives. She encouraged students to uphold the institution’s values and actively contribute to its academic and cultural environment.

An entertainment and refreshment session followed, conducted by Dr. Manjula Sushila and Quazi Bushra Ahmed, providing an informal opportunity for interaction among the new students.

Sessions on Environment, Culture and Sports

Dr. Sumeet Ranjan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, addressed students on environmental awareness, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices and responsible citizenship.

The session was followed by Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce and Cultural Coordinator, who introduced students to the college’s cultural activities. She encouraged them to participate in events and programmes beyond the classroom.

Dr. Manjula Sushila, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi and Sports Coordinator, along with Sports Teacher Quazi Bushra Ahmed, briefed students about the sports facilities and physical education opportunities available on campus.

Focus on Social Responsibility and Ethics

Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C. also spoke about Institutional Social Responsibility, outlining the college’s outreach initiatives and community engagement programmes.

The concluding session was delivered by Alok John, Dean of National and International Collaboration and Consultancy Services. Speaking on human values and professional ethics, he urged students to practise integrity, empathy and ethical conduct in their academic and professional lives.

Programme Coordination

The event was moderated by Ayushi Arya, Vice Premier of the Student Council 2026–27.

According to the college, the orientation programme was organised by the cultural coordinators, Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Enakshi Dey Biswas and Puja Kumari, as part of the induction process for the new undergraduate batch.

  • The Bihar government has launched a statewide drive to remove encroachments and unauthorised commercial activities from Bazar Samiti premises. Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has directed officials to conduct regular inspections and take action against illegal haats, fairs, temporary markets and other activities operating without approval. Authorities have been asked to ensure that these government-managed market premises remain free from unauthorised occupation.

  • Bihar has introduced CAS-2026 for teachers in universities and affiliated colleges, making promotions more performance-based. Under the new rules, faculty members must conduct at least 70% of scheduled classes to remain eligible for promotion, while teaching performance, research publications, APAR ratings and academic contributions will also be assessed. Teachers taking 80% or more classes will receive an “Excellent” grade. The new system aims to strengthen accountability and improve teaching and research standards in higher education.

  • Janshakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with alleged violence during a student protest in Patna. Arrested late Saturday night, Yadav was produced before a magistrate shortly after midnight and sent to Beur Central Jail. This marks the first time in his political career that he has been sent to jail.

  • Jan Shakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav was arrested by Patna Police in connection with the Bihar Bandh protests and later sent to Beur Jail in judicial custody. His lawyer, Jagannath Singh, alleged that the arrest was made without informing the family or providing a copy of the FIR at the time of arrest, and questioned the timing of the case.
