Patna : The food court along Patna’s scenic Marine Drive—formally known as JP Ganga Path—is set for a major facelift, with 500 fabricated shops planned as part of a Rs 15.46 crore redevelopment project.

Animesh Kumar Parashar, Managing Director of Patna Smart City Limited, confirmed that the tender process is underway and construction is expected to begin later this month. The project will feature uniform, steel-structured shops stretching from 100 metres beyond Digha Rotary to Kurji Ghat.

“The work is being prioritised to start in April,” Parashar said. “The aim is to provide organised, uniform shops that will enhance the experience for both vendors and visitors.”

The project will be executed by Patna Smart City Limited in coordination with the Patna Municipal Corporation, which has been tasked with ensuring the new shops maintain a consistent design along the riverfront.

The upgraded food court is expected to ease congestion and provide better infrastructure for street vendors, with designated vending zones and fixed rents for the new shops.

Marine Drive, a popular recreational destination for city residents, has seen increasing footfall in recent years. Authorities hope that the redevelopment will improve not just aesthetics but also sanitation and vendor management along the riverbank.
