Pink Buses Rolled Out in Bhagalpur to Support Safer Urban Mobility for Women

Bhagalpur: A new fleet of pink buses dedicated to women passengers has been introduced in Bhagalpur, Bihar, in a move aimed at making daily commutes safer and more convenient for female residents. The initiative, launched on May 30, saw two buses begin their operations from the Tilkamanjhi Government Bus Stand.

The buses, operated with female conductors, were met with a positive response from commuters. Sonam, a traveller from Purnia, said she opted for the pink bus to reach the station and found the journey comfortable.

To ensure wider reach and awareness, the city’s Smart City public address system will be used to promote the service. The system, currently installed at 10 key locations across Bhagalpur, is expected to play a crucial role in informing women and girls about the availability and routes of the pink buses.

Ajitabh Anand, Regional Manager of the Transport Division, reported encouraging feedback from the first day, particularly from working women and those commuting to local markets. He added that the department plans to collect passenger feedback over the next week to identify areas for improvement.

Further collaboration is expected between the Transport Department and the Smart City administration to optimise communication and outreach.
