Patna: The Pitru Paksha Mela 2026 will begin in Punpun on Friday, with the district administration putting in place arrangements for the safety and convenience of devotees arriving for Pind Daan and Tarpan rituals.
The arrangements include barricading at Punpun Ghat, CCTV surveillance, police deployment, disaster management teams, Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and a 24-hour medical team.
Barricades And Security At Ghats
Barricades have been installed at designated areas of Punpun Ghat to regulate bathing and improve safety. Devotees have been advised to bathe only within the areas marked as safe.
Security personnel will be deployed at the ghats, while officials will continuously monitor crowd movement during the fair.
Police Deployment Across Key Locations
Magistrates and police officials have been deployed at the railway station, bus stand, ghats and other important locations.
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has directed the Masaurhi Sub-Divisional Officer and other concerned officials to monitor arrangements throughout the fair and ensure that pilgrims do not face inconvenience.
CCTV And Emergency Response
CCTV cameras have been installed across the fair area to monitor crowd movement and activities. A police camp has also been established within the fair premises.
Disaster management teams and QRTs have been deployed to respond to emergencies during the fair.
Accommodation And Transport
Accommodation for visiting devotees has been arranged at Rai Surajmal Jhunjhunwala Dharamshala and SMD College.
Parking facilities for devotees’ vehicles have been arranged inside the SMD College campus. E-rickshaws will also be available to connect the fair area with nearby key locations.
24-Hour Medical Support
A medical team will remain deployed in the fair area around the clock to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies.
Wheelchairs have also been arranged, while volunteers will assist elderly and other pilgrims who require support.
Water, Toilets And Lighting
The administration has directed officials to ensure adequate drinking water, toilets and sanitation facilities across the fairgrounds.
Instructions have also been issued for regular cleanliness monitoring, adequate lighting and uninterrupted power supply to facilitate movement after dark.
Help Desks For Pilgrims
Help desks and assistance camps have been established at key locations to guide devotees and address their requirements.
The district administration has said that the arrangements are aimed at providing a safe and convenient environment for pilgrims attending the Punpun Pitru Paksha Mela.
