Munger/Patna : The Munger Municipal Corporation has launched action against beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) who received government assistance but failed to complete construction of their houses.

The civic body has identified 197 beneficiaries who either did not start construction after receiving the first or second instalment or left their houses incomplete. Notices are now being issued to these beneficiaries, directing them to complete the construction work.

Officials have made it clear that beneficiaries who receive financial assistance under the scheme are responsible for completing their houses according to the prescribed norms. Failure to comply even after receiving the notice could lead to action under applicable rules, including recovery of the government funds.

802 Beneficiaries Have Completed Their Houses

According to the municipal corporation, a total of 1,062 beneficiaries in the Munger Municipal Corporation area received financial assistance for house construction under PMAY-1.0.

Of these, 802 beneficiaries have completed construction of their houses and have received the amount payable under the scheme.

Another 73 beneficiaries have completed their houses, but their payments are currently pending due to a shortage of funds. Officials said the pending amount will be released once funds become available.

197 Beneficiaries Yet to Complete Construction

The municipal corporation’s verification found that 197 beneficiaries have not completed their houses despite receiving financial assistance.

While some beneficiaries did not begin construction after receiving the funds, others started the work but subsequently left it incomplete.

The civic body is now issuing notices to these beneficiaries and directing them to complete the construction within the stipulated period. If they fail to comply, officials may initiate proceedings under the applicable rules and begin the process of recovering the amount already released.

Rs 2 Lakh Assistance Was Given in Four Instalments

Under PMAY-1.0, beneficiaries were eligible for a total financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for house construction.

The amount was released in four instalments based on the progress of construction:

  • First instalment: Rs 50,000
  • Second instalment: Rs 1 lakh
  • Third instalment: Rs 30,000
  • Fourth instalment: Rs 20,000

The release of each instalment was linked to the progress of construction.

PMAY-2.0 Offers ₹2.5 Lakh Assistance

Under PMAY-2.0, beneficiaries are now eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh, which is being released in three instalments.

In the Munger Municipal Corporation area, 302 beneficiaries have so far received approval under the scheme. The first instalment of Rs 1 lakh has already been released to all approved beneficiaries.

The second instalment of Rs 1 lakh has also been released to 168 beneficiaries.

Officials Warn Beneficiaries to Complete Construction

Munger Municipal Corporation Deputy Municipal Commissioner Nasimuddin Khan said beneficiaries who have received funds under the scheme must complete their houses in accordance with the amount released to them.

He said action would be taken against those who fail to complete construction as per the prescribed requirements. At the same time, beneficiaries whose houses have already been completed but whose payments are pending due to lack of funds will receive the outstanding amount once funds are made available.
