Patna: The Bihar government has approved the first instalment of Rs 233.05 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 for housing projects across 45 urban local bodies. According to the Urban Development and Housing Department, the funds will support Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) projects, enabling thousands of eligible urban families to build permanent homes.
The sanctioned amount, comprising contributions from both the Centre and the state, will be released during the 2026–27 financial year. The department has issued an order authorising the allocation.
What Has Been Approved?
According to the Urban Development and Housing Department, the approved amount will serve as the first instalment under PMAY (Urban) 2.0 for selected urban bodies in Bihar.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance to construct permanent houses measuring 30 to 45 square metres.
How Will the Funds Be Released?
Officials said the funds will be transferred to the respective urban local bodies through the SNA-SPARSH (System for Nodal Agency) platform.
The department said the Just-in-Time SNA-SPARSH model has been adopted to ensure timely fund transfers, improve transparency and reduce delays in disbursing assistance to beneficiaries.
Centre and State to Share the Cost
According to the department, the Central Government’s share includes:
- Rs 111.60 crore for the General category
- Rs 27.23 crore for Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Rs 99.60 lakh for Scheduled Tribes (ST)
The Bihar government will provide its corresponding share, taking the total allocation to Rs 233.05 crore.
Which Urban Bodies Received the Highest Allocation?
Among the approved allocations:
- Sitamarhi Municipal Corporation – Rs 20.63 crore
- Bodh Gaya Municipal Council – Rs 18.16 crore
- Madhubani Municipal Corporation – Rs 17.03 crore
- Alamnagar Nagar Panchayat – Rs 13.80 crore
- Mirganj Municipal Council – Rs 10.52 crore
- Chakia Municipal Council – Rs 10.36 crore
- Banmankhi Bazar Municipal Council – Rs 10.30 crore
The remaining sanctioned amount will be distributed among other selected urban local bodies covered under the scheme.
What Is PMAY (Urban) 2.0?
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 has been in force across the country since September 1, 2024. The scheme provides financial support to eligible urban households to build or improve permanent homes under the Beneficiary-Led Construction component.
