Patna : Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Liver Day by urging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles to combat liver diseases and obesity. He emphasized the importance of small dietary changes, such as reducing oil intake, to promote overall well-being.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi commended the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its efforts to raise awareness about liver health under this year’s theme, “Food is Medicine”. He highlighted that mindful eating and healthier living can significantly impact public health.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, urging people to reduce edible oil consumption by at least 10 per cent. He also called for increased awareness about the adverse effects of obesity and its growing impact on society.
This initiative comes amid concerns over rising obesity rates in India. A Lancet report projects that nearly 44 crore Indians could be obese by 2050, posing significant health and economic risks. Experts stress the need for dietary changes and increased awareness to address this crisis.
World Liver Day serves as a reminder to prioritize liver health through conscious dietary choices and regular health check-ups. PM Modi’s call to action encourages individuals to take proactive steps towards maintaining a healthy liver, thereby contributing to a fitter and healthier India.
