Gayaji: PM Modi will arrive in Gayaji on August 22, where he is scheduled to announce a host of development projects aimed at transforming the religious city and nearby Bodh Gaya into global tourism hubs. Ahead of the visit, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary chaired a review meeting with local officials to assess preparations.
As part of the visit, PM Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the development of a corridor around the Vishnupad Temple, similar to the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir corridor in Varanasi. A similar plan is also underway for the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. These initiatives, announced in the Union Budget 2024, aim to enhance the spiritual and cultural appeal of the region.
Samrat stated that significant investments are being made to upgrade infrastructure, including the expansion of rail, road, parking, and public amenities in Bodh Gaya, which attracts Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. A major highlight is the redevelopment of Gayaji railway station, expected to provide a more comfortable travel experience for visitors.
To preserve and promote Buddhist heritage, the central government is also developing museums, archaeological sites, and tourist attractions. Several projects under the public-private partnership model have been launched to position Gayaji as a key destination within the Buddhist tourism circuit.
In addition to tourism-focused projects, the government is rolling out schemes to address climate change and boost agricultural productivity. These include promoting modern farming techniques and supporting agriculture-based industries. A budget of Rs 300 crore has been allocated for the expansion of Gayaji airport, aiming to improve air connectivity for both domestic and international pilgrims.
Samrat added that ongoing efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and water supply systems in Gayaji are progressing rapidly, thanks to the combined efforts of the central and state governments. He said PM Modi’s upcoming visit is expected to be a turning point for Gayaji’s development and will have a far-reaching impact on Bihar as a whole.
