Begusarai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Asia’s widest six-lane bridge over the Ganga at Simaria Ghat in Begusarai, drawing thousands of people despite heavy rain. PM Modi personally greeted the crowd, waving to supporters along the route.
The bridge, completed at a cost of Rs 1,871 crore, is expected to ease traffic between Patna and Begusarai and boost regional development. Officials say it will create employment opportunities and improve connectivity for North Bihar, which relies on South Bihar and Jharkhand for essential supplies.
During the visit, PM Modi was accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The Prime Minister was welcomed with local songs, including traditional Chhath Songs, as the area around Simaria Ganga Dham was decorated for the occasion.
The ceremony highlighted Bihar’s expanding road infrastructure. A four-lane road from Bakhtiyarpur to Mokama is set to open, while work continues on widening roads from Simaria to Khagaria and from Khagaria to Purnia. Authorities anticipate the improvements will reduce traffic congestion and accelerate economic activity across the region.
