Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new terminal building of Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on May 29, where a 100-foot tall national flag now stands prominently at the entrance. The symbolic installation, designed to evoke a sense of pride and patriotism, is the first sight to greet arriving passengers.
The modern terminal, nearly complete, is part of a major infrastructure push in Bihar. Spread across 65,155 square metres, it will increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 2.5 million to 10 million. The inauguration will also include the foundation-laying ceremony for a new airport in Bihta, extending regional air connectivity.
According to airport officials, the terminal is a three-storey structure with dedicated arrival and departure levels. It features 64 check-in counters, 13 boarding gates, five luggage belts, and multi-level parking space for over 7,500 vehicles. Enhanced security and hygiene systems have also been installed.
Speaking ahead of the event, BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal said, “The land of Pataliputra is ready to welcome the Prime Minister.” He added that the PM’s visit, following the success of Operation Sindoor, is a moment of pride for Bihar.
The new terminal marks a significant step in upgrading air travel infrastructure in one of India’s fastest-growing states, with a focus on modern facilities, streamlined passenger flow, and national symbolism.
