Patna: Door-to-door waste collection has resumed across all wards of the Patna Municipal Corporation as the civic body conducts a special sanitation drive to clear waste accumulated during the sanitation workers’ strike.
According to the Patna Municipal Corporation, approximately 9,800 tonnes of waste had been collected from across the municipal area by Friday, August 7. Collection vehicles are making additional trips to speed up the removal of accumulated waste.
Waste Clearance Underway Across Zones
The civic body said anti-larval chemicals are being sprayed at garbage collection points. Lime and bleaching powder are also being applied after waste is removed as part of sanitation measures.
In the Nutan Rajdhani Zone, accumulated waste was cleared from Bandar Bagicha, the area beneath Chiraiyatand Bridge and the Dakbungalow area. Around 3,600 tonnes of waste were removed from the zone.
The Pataliputra Zone saw sanitation operations in areas including Ashok Rajpath, Gandhi Maidan and Kurji, with approximately 1,800 tonnes of waste collected.
In the Azimabad Zone, teams carried out cleaning operations across several locations, including Nishka Colony, Noorani Bagh Park Road, Chand Colony, Shershah Path, Bhadra Ghat Road, Durga Charan Lane, Badi Patan Devi Road, Panchvati Colony, Belwarganj, Gulzarbagh Station Road and surrounding areas. Around 1,100 tonnes of waste were collected.
The Kankarbagh Zone recorded approximately 3,000 tonnes of waste removal from areas including Old Bypass Road, Medanta, Bus Stand Road, 90 Feet Road, Hanuman Nagar, Kali Mandir Road, Vijay Nagar, Kanti Factory Road, Bhutnath Road and Gandhi Nagar Road.
Waste Removed From Bankipur And Patna City
In the Bankipur Zone, sanitation teams cleared waste from Ashok Rajpath, Bari Path, Thakurbari Road, Chudi Market, Nala Road, Mahua Toli Road, Govind Mitra Road, Lohanipur Main Road, Arya Kumar Road, Khazanchi Road and Bazar Samiti Road.
The civic body said approximately 332 tonnes of waste were collected from households, commercial establishments and roadsides in the zone.
In the Patna City Zone, special cleaning operations were conducted at Ashok Rajpath, Bataun Kuan, Chowk Shikarpur, Ara Mill, Guru Gobind Singh Link Path, Patna Sahib Station and Morcha Road. Around 50 tonnes of waste were removed.
Civic Body Appeals For Public Cooperation
The Patna Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to avoid dumping waste on roads, open plots, drains and other public spaces.
The civic body urged residents to hand over their waste directly to door-to-door collection vehicles, saying public cooperation would help restore sanitation services to normal more quickly.
