PMC Unveils Model Toilet With Selfie Zone in Patna to Boost Swachh Survekshan Ranking

Patna: In a bid to improve its ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2024, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a model toilet equipped with modern amenities and a dedicated selfie corner to promote public sanitation and community engagement.

The facility, unveiled as part of the national Garbage-Free City (GFC) and Water Plus standards, is designed to showcase upgraded sanitation infrastructure while encouraging citizens to participate in the city’s cleanliness campaign. Beginning April 15, the civic body will launch a “Selfie with Toilet” campaign, inviting residents to click photos at the toilet’s specially designed selfie zone and post them on social media using designated hashtags.

“The idea is to engage the community, especially young people, through digital participation while showcasing the upgraded facilities,” said a PMC spokesperson, calling it a first-of-its-kind initiative in the city.

The toilet, built to mimic amenities found in hotels and upscale restaurants, features marble interiors, sensor-based taps and flushes, colourful tiling, and well-maintained greenery. It includes separate units for men and women, with 24/7 electricity and water supply.

The facility will be maintained by Swachchhangini, a team of trained women sanitation workers, promoting not just hygiene but also women’s empowerment. Feedback registers will be placed at the site and staff will collect public responses to improve future installations.

With Swachh Bharat teams set to assess the city’s sanitation under the GFC and Water Plus criteria, PMC officials hope this initiative will improve their survey performance while fostering a long-term culture of cleanliness among Patna’s residents.
