Patna: Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) will begin patient treatment in its newly constructed building from May 15, with outpatient services for geriatrics and medicine among the first to commence, hospital officials have confirmed.
Dr IS Thakur, superintendent of PMCH, said that while some wards are now ready to receive patients, additional departments will be moved to the new facility as construction and preparations are completed. “Initially, the outpatient departments (OPDs) of eight departments will be shifted to the new building,” Dr Thakur said.
The state-of-the-art facility will introduce several modern features aimed at improving patient care and efficiency. The wards will be equipped with on-bed access to medicines, blood, and diagnostic services, supported by a pneumatic tube transfer system, which will allow swift delivery of samples and medicines within the hospital.
Additionally, the hospital will introduce an automated laundry system, enabling bedsheets to be sent directly from the wards to the laundry through specially installed pipes, streamlining hygiene operations and reducing manual handling.
Hospital officials said the phased relocation will help minimise disruption to ongoing services while giving patients access to upgraded amenities sooner.
