Patna: Bapu Tower in Patna concluded a two-day programme marking the 151st birth anniversary of Rajkumar Shukla, a prominent figure associated with the Champaran Satyagraha. The programme focused on Shukla’s contribution to the movement and the continuing relevance of Gandhian values.
The event was organised at the auditorium of Bapu Tower and brought together speakers, officials and students for discussions on the history and legacy of the Champaran Satyagraha.
Documentary Screening Marks First Day
The first phase of the programme was held on August 23. Director and officials of Bapu Tower paid floral tributes to the portrait of Rajkumar Shukla.
This was followed by a special screening of Biswajit Mukherjee’s documentary Gandhi ka Champaran (Gandhi’s Champaran) for the audience.

Lecture Focuses on Rajkumar Shukla and Champaran
On the second day, August 24, a lecture session was organised on the theme “Rajkumar Shukla and Champaran.”
Delivering the keynote address, Shatrughn Jha of Gandhi Ashram, Narkatiaganj, discussed the Champaran Satyagraha and the circumstances that led to the movement.
He highlighted Rajkumar Shukla’s role in bringing Mahatma Gandhi to Champaran and informing him about the conditions prevailing in the region. Jha has also been associated with the propagation of Gandhian values and ideas in Champaran.
Students Encouraged to Follow Gandhian Values
Asif Wasi, Joint Secretary of the Gandhi Museum, was the second speaker at the programme. He encouraged students to incorporate Gandhian ethics and values into their everyday lives.
The session focused on the continuing relevance of Gandhi’s principles and the importance of applying these values beyond academic discussions.
Bapu Tower Director Highlights Legacy of Gandhi and Shukla
Delivering the presidential address, Vinay Kumar, Director of Bapu Tower, said the foundational work of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajkumar Shukla continues to inspire society.
He also interacted with students during an interactive session, inviting them to share their immediate responses and perspectives on the theme of the programme.
Officials and Students Attend Programme
Lalit Kumar Singh, Deputy Director of Bapu Tower, delivered the welcome address, while Pratyush Chandra Mishra, Section Officer, Bapu Tower, conducted the programme.
Under Secretary Arun Kumar Pathak proposed the vote of thanks.
Kiran Kumari, Joint Secretary, Bapu Tower; Ajay Kumar Singh, Under Secretary; and Ashok Kumar, a teacher at Patna High School, were also present.
A large number of students from Patna High School attended the programme, which concluded with discussions highlighting the historical significance of Rajkumar Shukla and the continuing relevance of Gandhian thought.
