West Champaran: The Ministry of External Affairs is set to open a new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Ram Nagar, a town in West Champaran district. The centre will be inaugurated on April 13 at Prem Janani Sanskrit High School. The event will be attended by the Member of Parliament from the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency, along with local MLAs and officials from the ministry, Regional Passport Office Patna, and India Post.
This new passport centre has been set up to make passport services easier to access, especially for people living in villages and remote areas. Earlier, many residents had to travel long distances to cities to apply for passports. With the opening of the Ram Nagar centre, people will now be able to complete most of their work closer to home, saving both time and money.
The Ram Nagar POPSK will be the 454th such centre in India and the 38th in Bihar. It will provide services like applying for a new passport, renewing old passports, and getting Police Clearance Certificates (PCC). Around 45 passport appointments and 5 PCC appointments will be available each day. Applicants will only need to visit the centre once with their original documents for verification and biometric capture. If everything is correct and police verification is clear, passports are expected to be delivered by Speed Post within about five days.
With this new centre, passport services will now be available in all 40 Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar. This is an important step towards making government services more accessible to everyone. The ministry has also been working to reach remote areas through mobile passport vans. Since 2024, 17 such camps have been organised in Bihar, including one in Bagaha in West Champaran.
The demand for passports in West Champaran has increased in recent years. In 2024, more than 21,000 people applied for passports, and in 2025, this number rose to over 26,000. This shows that more people are becoming aware of passport services and are interested in travelling, studying, or working outside the country. The increase also includes more women applicants and even transgender applicants, showing better inclusivity.
Officials believe that the new passport centre in Ram Nagar will further improve services in the region. It will help people access important documents easily and quickly, supporting the government’s aim of better and more citizen-friendly services.
