Patna: In a major boost to Bihar’s green industrial ambitions, Reliance Industries has received approval to establish a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in the Lohat Industrial Area (Phase-1) of Madhubani district. The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has cleared the allocation of 27.44 acres of land for the project.
With an estimated investment of Rs 125 crore, the plant will have the capacity to produce 7,875 metric tonnes of CBG and 80,000 tonnes of organic fertiliser annually. The facility is expected to create 100 direct and 150 indirect jobs, offering a significant employment boost in the region.
The plant will utilise agricultural waste as its primary raw material, providing local farmers with an additional income stream and promoting sustainable practices. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support circular economy models.
Bihar industries minister Nitish Mishra has hailed the project as a milestone in Bihar’s push towards environmentally responsible industrialisation. “It is expected to not only strengthen the rural economy but also position the state as a key player in India’s renewable energy transition,” he said.
He added: “The Reliance project marks one of the largest private investments in Madhubani’s industrial infrastructure to date and could serve as a catalyst for further green ventures across the region.”
