Patna: Several officers and personnel of the Bihar Police have been recognised in the President’s honours announced on the eve of Republic Day 2026, highlighting acts of bravery and years of dedicated public service. The central government named 982 awardees from the police, fire services, home guards, civil defence and correctional services across the country.
Among the recipients is Bihar cadre IPS officer Kundan Krishnan, who has been awarded the Medal for Gallantry for exceptional courage. The gallantry medal is given to personnel who risk their lives to save others, prevent serious crime or display outstanding bravery during critical operations.
Two other Bihar personnel have also been named for gallantry: Arjun Lal, a sub-inspector, and Jitendra Singh, a constable. Officials said the awards recognise acts carried out in challenging and often dangerous circumstances, reflecting a strong commitment to public safety.
In addition, the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, awarded for long and exemplary service marked by integrity and effectiveness, has gone to Umesh Lal Rajak, a deputy superintendent of police, and Navratna Kumar, a sub-inspector, both serving in Bihar.
A larger group of officers and personnel from the state have received the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service, which honours consistent professionalism and dedication to duty. The recipients include senior officers such as Daljit Singh, inspector general, and Rajiv Ranjan Dwitiya, assistant inspector general, alongside field-level staff ranging from deputy superintendents and sub-inspectors to head constables and constables.
Together, the honours underscore the role played by Bihar Police personnel at all levels in maintaining law and order and safeguarding the public, with the Republic Day awards serving as a national recognition of courage, commitment and service.
