Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the state government will purchase 25% of products manufactured by industries established in Bihar, provided the products meet the required standards.
Speaking at the Rising Bihar Investor Summit 2026 in Patna, Choudhary said the government would give priority to such products in government procurement and was working to make its procurement policy more useful for industries.
The summit was held at Hotel Taj City Centre, Patna, under the theme “Bihar – The Emerging Investment Destination of India”. The event brought together policymakers, investors, industry representatives and entrepreneurs to discuss investment opportunities in the state.
Government To Support Industrial Investment
Choudhary said Bihar was developing the infrastructure required to support industrial growth, including roads, electricity, water supply and other essential facilities.
He invited industrialists and investors to establish businesses in Bihar and said the state government would provide support and facilities to encourage investment.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Bihar’s large population as a potential market, saying the state could use its population and market size to create more investment and employment opportunities.
25% Procurement From State Industries
The Chief Minister said products manufactured by industries in Bihar would receive priority in government purchases if they meet the prescribed quality standards.
He said the government would purchase 25% of such products and would also work to ensure that industries have access to markets.
The state is also revising its procurement policy to make it more supportive of industrial units and investors.
Roads, Power And Water To Support Industry
Choudhary said Bihar’s road network had expanded significantly and that work was continuing on national highways and expressways.
He said electricity availability and consumption had also increased, with the state government aiming to further expand generation and distribution capacity.
According to the figures cited at the summit, Bihar’s electricity availability has increased from around 500 MW in 2005 to more than 10,000 MW, with a target of reaching 20,000 MW over the next five years.
The Chief Minister also discussed Bihar’s flood and water-management challenges and the need for long-term planning for rivers including the Ganga, Kosi and Gandak.
Ganga Water And First State Silt Policy
Choudhary said the state had prepared its first silt policy, under which material removed from rivers could be used in road construction and other development works.
He said the approach could help reduce construction costs while also addressing issues related to river silt.
The government is also working to connect agricultural feeders with solar power to provide farmers with adequate electricity during the daytime and reduce the burden of electricity subsidies.
Tourism And Ropeway Investment
The Chief Minister said Bihar also had investment opportunities in hotels, tourism and eco-tourism, particularly in destinations such as Patna and Gaya.
He also announced that the state was moving ahead with a proposed ropeway across the Ganga towards Harihar Nath Temple in Sonpur. Work on the proposed project is expected to begin within five months, although details such as the final route and project cost have not yet been announced.
Nitin Gadkari Highlights Centre-State Cooperation
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also addressed the summit.
Gadkari said the Centre would extend its support to Bihar’s development and highlighted the role of infrastructure in the state’s economic growth.
The summit was organised as a platform for investment discussions, with the official programme focusing on industrial development, infrastructure, sector-wise investment opportunities and engagement between government and industry.
The state government said the broader objective is to attract investment, expand industrial activity and create more employment opportunities within Bihar.
