Patna : The Saran district administration has intensified preparations for Harihar Kshetra Sonpur Mela 2026, with plans to establish at least 500 toilets, identify parking areas and allocate space for vending zones.
Saran District Magistrate Vaibhav Srivastava and Senior Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar jointly inspected the fairgrounds and major approach roads to review arrangements for the event.
During the inspection, officials assessed preparations for sanitation, drinking water, lighting, parking, encroachment removal and traffic management. They directed the concerned departments to complete the required arrangements within the stipulated timeframe.
At Least 500 Toilets Planned In Clusters
The administration plans to establish at least 500 toilets across the fairgrounds, arranged in clusters of 10 at different locations. Each cluster will have separate facilities for women and men, wash basins, water supply and regular cleaning arrangements.
Officials also directed departments to ensure adequate drinking water across the fairgrounds and along major approach roads, with regular water supply at public locations.
Street lighting will be strengthened across the fairgrounds and connecting roads. Dark spots will be identified and prioritised for lighting to improve visibility and public safety.
The administration also instructed officials to divide the fairgrounds into different zones and identify suitable locations for toilets, parking and other public amenities.
Land To Be Identified For Parking And Vending Zones
Officials have been directed to identify sufficient parking areas for vehicles visiting the fair and ensure that the sites are levelled and suitable for vehicle movement.
The parking areas must remain free of encroachment, while access to nearby buildings and movement for local residents must not be obstructed.
The administration has also instructed officials to identify vacant grounds and other potential sites for vending zones. Land records, including jamabandi details and ownership status, will be verified before land is made available in accordance with applicable rules.
Major approach roads will be repaired where necessary. Officials have also been asked to install barricades while leaving adequate space along roads to ensure safe movement for pedestrians and devotees without disrupting vehicle traffic.
Traffic And Crowd Management Plan To Be Prepared
The administration has directed officials to remove encroachments from the fairgrounds and major connecting roads to keep movement routes clear.
A traffic management plan will be prepared based on anticipated crowd sizes and vehicle volumes, covering entry and exit routes as well as parking areas.
Administrative and police officials have been instructed to coordinate security and crowd management arrangements. The District Magistrate and SSP also directed the departments concerned to complete the work within the prescribed deadlines and review progress regularly.
The planned measures are intended to improve sanitation, access, traffic flow and public amenities during Sonpur Mela 2026.
