Sasaram: Residents of the Karakat area in Rohtas district’s Dehri subdivision staged a protest on Monday, burning an effigy of Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh amid rising public anger over the ongoing controversy involving his wife, Jyoti Singh.
The protesters, reportedly longtime supporters of the couple, expressed their disappointment over recent events, including a police intervention at Pawan Singh’s Lucknow residence when Jyoti Singh arrived yesterday. Many of the demonstrators highlighted Jyoti Singh’s role in supporting Pawan Singh during his election campaign and criticised the handling of the situation, calling on the actor to refrain from such actions in the future.
Slogans denouncing Pawan Singh were raised during the demonstration, which also drew attention to issues of women’s dignity, with some protesters noting the silence of advocates on the matter. Jan Suraaj Party leader Sameer Dubey joined the protest and participated in burning the effigy at the police station square in Dehri.
The incident reflects growing local frustration with the couple’s public conduct and the broader scrutiny of celebrity figures in political and social controversies in Bihar.
