Session on Legal Rights for Girl Students Held at Notre Dame Academy
Patna: The Parents’ Teachers Association of Notre Dame Academy hosted an insightful session for Class 11 students on the topic “Understanding Legal Rights as Girl Children” in the school’s Julie Hall. The event aimed to educate young students about their legal rights, responsibilities, and protections under the law.
The session featured an esteemed panel of speakers, including Mithilesh Kumar, an IPS officer of the 2012 batch and Commandant of the Special Armed Force, Valmiki Nagar, West Champaran; Shivani Dewalla, an LLM graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, and a practicing advocate; and Roshini Kumar, Sub-Inspector at Bahadurpur Police Station.
Mithilesh Kumar delivered a comprehensive presentation covering topics such as students’ fundamental rights and freedoms, understanding the Indian legal framework, legal responsibilities and obligations, effective communication with law enforcement, cybersecurity and online safety, issues of consent, harassment, and sexual assault, as well as reporting abuse and fostering a culture of respect and accountability.
Shivani Dewalla conducted an engaging session that included interactive case studies and hypothetical scenarios, encouraging students to analyze legal situations and discuss potential responses, thereby enhancing their decision-making skills and legal awareness.
Meanwhile, Roshini Kumar offered practical insights on addressing everyday legal challenges, including the effective use of the emergency helpline 112, filing complaints at police stations, and navigating real-life issues with law enforcement.
The session also included a highly interactive Q&A segment, where students asked a range of questions. The speakers addressed their queries patiently, ensuring the participants left with a clear understanding of their legal rights and the steps they could take to protect themselves.
