Begusarai/Patna: A seven-year-old child died on Friday after falling into an uncovered toilet tank at a government school in Begusarai. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding an investigation into the negligence of school authorities.
The child, identified as Dharamveer Kumar, was a student at the upgraded middle school in Chiraiyatok village under Bachhwara block. His home was adjacent to the school, and he was playing near the premises when he accidentally fell into the open tank.
After he went missing for several hours, his family and local residents launched a search. He was eventually discovered inside the tank, but by the time he was pulled out, he had already died.
The school had been closed for the Holi holiday since Thursday, and celebrations had been underway at Dharamveer’s home when the tragedy struck. His death has cast a shadow over the festivities, leaving the family devastated.
Locals blamed the school’s negligence for the incident, stating that the toilet tank was left uncovered. A villager claimed that just three days prior, Dharamveer’s father, Ajay Kumar, had urged the headmaster to install a lid, warning that children often played in the area and an accident could occur. However, no action was taken.
Police arrived at the scene and sent the body for postmortem examination. The incident has led to widespread anger among residents, with many calling for strict action against school authorities.
