KATIHAR: Couple in Katihar district have named their newborn daughter Sindoori, commemorating her birth on the same day as Operation Sindoor — India’s recent retaliatory airstrike against Pakistan.
Rakhi Kumari, wife of Santosh Mandal from Kursela in Katihar, gave birth to her daughter on May 7, the day the Indian armed forces carried out a coordinated strike across the border. The operation targeted and destroyed nine suspected terrorist hideouts in Pakistan in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalham earlier this month.
As news of the military action dominated headlines and captured the public mood, the couple said they were inspired by the courage of the Indian forces — particularly the women officers who led the mission. “When the nation was striking back, Laxmi herself came into our house,” said Mandal, referring to the newborn daughter as a symbol of blessing.
The family say they hope Sindoori’s name will be a permanent reminder of both national pride and personal joy. Locals have been visiting the family to offer congratulations, turning the birth into a small community celebration.
