Siwan: Siwan witnessed another brazen armed robbery on Tuesday, the second in just three days, after four masked men raided a jewellery shop in Khori Pakad Market under the Basantpur police station. The attackers arrived on a motorcycle, fired outside the store and fled with gold and silver worth an estimated Rs 18–20 lakh, police said.
The incident took place at Mohit Jewellers and Utensils Store, where owner Mohit Kumar said he was in the shop when the assailants entered. “Four criminals came in and started firing indiscriminately outside the shop. Then they entered the shop, opened the cupboard, and took away the gold and silver jewellery,” he said.
Two of the men reportedly stood guard at the shop entrance with weapons while the others looted the cupboard before escaping.
Police teams reached the scene shortly after receiving information. Siwan SDPO Aman confirmed the incident and said CCTV footage was being examined. “A robbery has occurred. There were four masked criminals. The shopkeeper reported that around Rs 18 lakh was looted. The case is being investigated from all angles. The criminals will be arrested soon,” he said.
The robbery has deepened fear among traders, who were already on edge after an armed gang looted a jewellery store in Tari Bazaar, Raghunathpur, on Saturday. Business owners say the latest attack, coming so soon after the earlier heist, has raised concerns over deteriorating law and order in the district.
Police have begun analysing footage from nearby cameras and are conducting raids to trace the gang.
