Smack Worth Rs150,000 Seized in Motihari as Bihar Faces Rise in Drug Trade Post-Prohibition

Motihari / Patna : The police in Motihari, have seized a consignment of smack valued at around Rs150,000 in the international market, highlighting concerns over the growing trade in narcotics following the state’s prohibition of alcohol. Acting on a tip-off, the raid was conducted in the Nakardei police station area, where officers recovered more than seven kilograms of smack.

The operation, carried out under the supervision of Magistrate and Adapur Circle Officer Anamika Singh, led to the discovery of the drugs concealed in a pit near Sirisiya Mal village. The smugglers, however, managed to evade arrest. According to the police, the consignment was packed in small plastic packets and smuggled into India from Nepal.

Drug Trade on the Rise Post-Prohibition

Bihar has been under total prohibition since 2016, but the state appears to be witnessing a sharp increase in the trade of narcotics, especially in regions like East Champaran. Law enforcement officials suspect that the crackdown on alcohol has inadvertently pushed people towards other illicit substances, with smugglers exploiting porous borders to move contraband.

Smugglers Identified, Raids Underway

Swarn Prabhat, Superintendent of Police, confirmed that four suspects have been identified in connection with the seized consignment. “More than seven kilograms of smack have been recovered from the Nakardei police station area. Its estimated price in the international market is around Rs150,000. Four drug smugglers have been identified, and raids are underway to apprehend them,” he said.
