Gayaji: A man and his wife have been arrested in Bihar for the murder of his 14-year-old daughter, after allegedly strangling her to death for not obeying instructions or doing household chores.

The incident took place in Imamganj, Gaya district, where the victim, Preeti Kumari, had been living with her father, Manoj Yadav, and her stepmother, Ruchi Kumari. According to police, the couple confessed to killing the girl on Friday afternoon and later attempted to destroy evidence by burning her body.

Manoj and Ruchi allegedly kept Preeti’s body hidden inside their home until nightfall. Police say Manoj then tried to transport the body on a motorcycle to his native village, Bhaur Tetaria, with the intention of disposing of it. Local authorities, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the plan.

“Upon receiving information, a police team raided the village late Friday night,” said Imamganj SDPO Amit Kumar. “The body was recovered and sent to Magadh Medical College for postmortem. Both Manoj Yadav and Ruchi Kumari have been arrested and sent to jail.”

During questioning, Ruchi told police that Preeti often disobeyed them and refused to do household chores, which she cited as the reason behind the crime. Officers said the murder appeared to be premeditated, and that the accused also attempted to pass it off as a suicide.
