Patna: Bihar is likely to see a shift in weather patterns over the next 48 hours, with thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rainfall forecast across several regions, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre. A yellow alert has been issued for 14 districts and an orange alert for 12, warning of severe weather conditions.
The Met office has predicted partly cloudy skies across much of the state, including the capital, with thunderstorms and lightning expected at isolated places in the south-central and south-eastern districts. Wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h in these areas, with the potential to intensify further in northern and western parts of the state.
Districts such as East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran could experience sudden weather changes today, with gusts of 50–60 km/h expected to sweep across the region.
Heavy rainfall is particularly likely at one or two locations in Supaul, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Katihar and Purnia in north-eastern Bihar, where a yellow alert remains in effect for thunderstorms and lightning.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast a welcome drop in maximum temperatures — by 2 to 3°C — over the next two to three days, offering some relief from the recent heat.
Meanwhile, storm-related incidents on Saturday left three people dead in Gaya and Aurangabad. In Gaya, a wall collapse during heavy rain claimed the lives of 10-year-old Ranjit Kumar and 50-year-old furniture shop owner Ramudit Sharma. In Aurangabad’s Karma Fatehpur village, 69-year-old Janak Devi died after a tree fell on her house during high winds.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, avoid sheltering near trees or unstable structures, and follow safety advisories issued by the state disaster management department.
