Patna: A 22-year-old student was shot dead on Friday morning at Saidpur Hostel in Patna, in what police suspect was the result of a mutual dispute. The victim, Chandan Kumar, originally from Warsaliganj, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

The incident took place in the Bahadurpur police station area, where a quarrel reportedly broke out between two students inside the hostel located in the Bazar Samiti locality. During the altercation, one of the students opened fire on Chandan. He was rushed to PMCH in critical condition but could not be saved.

The accused fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large. A bullet shell was recovered from the scene, and the hostel’s security guard informed local police, prompting an investigation.

City SP (East) inspected the site, and forensic teams, along with a dog squad, were deployed for further examination. According to Patna City ASP Atulit Jha, blood stains were found at the scene and samples have been collected for analysis. The family of the deceased has been notified, and police say further investigation will proceed once they receive a formal complaint.
