Patna: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol visited Bihar for the first time on Sunday as part of the promotional campaign for his upcoming film Bantwara 1947. Accompanied by his son and co-actor Karan Deol, the actor said he hopes the visit marks the beginning of a stronger connection with the state and that he plans to return for future film promotions.
Speaking to the media in Patna, Sunny Deol said he had never previously had the opportunity to visit Bihar despite his long film career.
‘I Want to Return to Bihar’
Sunny Deol said he was pleased to be visiting Bihar for the first time and described the trip as a new beginning.
He said he intended to visit the state more frequently and hoped to return to promote his future films.
Dream Project on Emperor Ashoka
Speaking about Bihar’s historical legacy, Sunny Deol said he has long wanted to make a film based on Ashoka.
According to the actor, filmmakers Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and Rajkumar Santoshi have previously narrated stories centred on the Mauryan ruler.
He said a film on Ashoka would require a substantial budget but expressed optimism that, following the success of Gadar 2 and the release of Bantwara 1947, the project could move forward. Sunny Deol added that the story was compelling enough that he could even cast both of his sons in the film.
‘Bantwara 1947’ Is About Humanity, Not Just Partition
Discussing his upcoming film, Sunny Deol said Bantwara 1947 is not solely a story about the Partition of India but also about the lives of families affected by it.
He said the film conveys themes of humanity and respect for mothers during one of the most difficult periods in the subcontinent’s history.
The actor also shared that members of his own family had experienced the Partition. He recalled listening to stories from his grandparents and other elders while growing up in a joint family, saying those accounts shaped his understanding of the human cost of the event.

First Public Appearance With Karan Deol
During the promotional event in Patna, Sunny Deol and Karan Deol appeared together on stage.
Karan Deol described working alongside his father in Bantwara 1947 as a memorable experience, saying it had been a significant milestone in his career.
Long Association With Rajkumar Santoshi
Sunny Deol also reflected on his long professional association with director Rajkumar Santoshi.
He said he has consistently preferred films centred on ordinary people fighting for their rights, families and dignity, adding that such stories help audiences connect with his characters.
