Supaul: Three people were killed and three others seriously injured after a speeding car lost control and rammed into a group of people participating in a kirtan in Bihar’s Supaul district late Tuesday night.
The accident took place near the Bajrangbali Temple along NH-327E near Kataiya Chowk, under the Pipra police station area.
According to preliminary information, six people were participating in a kirtan near the temple when the speeding car allegedly went out of control and ran over them. The vehicle then continued for around 50 metres before crashing into a roadside shop.
The driver reportedly fled the spot after the accident. Local residents, however, caught his wife and two children who were travelling in the car. For their safety, the three were taken to a nearby shop, whose shutter was pulled down.
Tension prevailed at the spot as a crowd reportedly attempted to break open the shutter. Police personnel reached the scene after being alerted, and the area was brought under security.
Three killed, three injured
The deceased have been identified as Tilai Das (65) and Raju Das (50), both residents of Ward No. 12, and Surendra Yadav (45), a resident of Ward No. 15.
The three deaths triggered grief among the families, with relatives gathering at the scene and mourning the victims.
The injured have been identified as Bhuvaneshwari Yadav and Ramchandra Yadav, both residents of Ward No. 11, and Krishna Mohan Sah, a resident of Ward No. 13. They were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police seize accident vehicle
Pipra police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and seized the damaged car. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash and have launched a search for the absconding driver.
Late Tuesday night, District Magistrate Sawan Kumar said the SDM had been directed to inspect the accident site. Police are investigating the case and taking necessary action.
