Patna Police to Recreate Scene of Businessman’s Murder as Investigation Stalls

Patna: A suspect has been detained in connection with the murder of prominent Patna-based businessman Gopal Khemka, although the primary shooter remains at large. The killing, which took place in Bihar’s capital earlier this week, has triggered a state-wide investigation as authorities explore possible motives including a land or business rivalry.

According to police sources, the man reportedly identified in some media reports as Roshan Kumar—was picked up near Khemka’s residence close to Gandhi Maidan late on Monday night. While unconfirmed by police, it is believed that he hails from the Punpun area of Patna. Officials have yet to release an official statement, though they have confirmed that the individual is being questioned.

The murder has prompted a flurry of raids in at least two districts—Vaishali and Ara—as well as Fatuha on the outskirts of Patna. Range Inspector General Jitendra Rana stated that raids were being carried out based on “significant leads” and expressed confidence that arrests would follow soon.

Investigators are also examining CCTV footage tracing Khemka’s route from the Bankipur Club to his home, amid suspicions that a “liner”—a person providing real-time updates on the victim’s movements—may have assisted the gunman.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and has conducted raids at more than a dozen locations in and around Patna. Authorities say they are closing in on both the shooter and the alleged mastermind behind the killing.
