Bodh Gaya: IIM Bodh Gaya organized menstrual awareness sessions on January 21 at two schools near Bodh Gaya, aiming to educate young girls on menstrual hygiene and break societal taboos surrounding the topic. The initiative, led by 12 members of Pragati – The CSR Committee, was conducted under the guidance of Chairperson Prof. Suresh K G and Prof. Gargi Roy, in collaboration with Niine India.
The first session took place at Rampur Government School at 11am, with around 200 girls in attendance. The event began with a street play (nukkad natak) performed by members of Pragati, highlighting the importance of menstrual hygiene. This was followed by an interactive presentation, quizzes, games, and a discussion to address misconceptions and encourage open dialogue.
Pragya, a student who attended the session, said: “The session was good and informative. We got to learn many facts about periods. Now, we are motivated to talk about it with our parents and friends without any hesitation and will make them aware.”
Md Sahab Uddin, the school principal, praised the initiative for fostering conversations on a subject often treated as taboo. He emphasised the importance of creating a supportive environment where young girls feel acknowledged and empowered.
The second session began at 2pm at Kendriya Vidyalaya Number- 2, OTA, with 300 girls participating. Similar to the earlier session, the event included a presentation, a Q&A segment, and a documentary video on menstrual hygiene. The sessions encouraged students to ask questions and openly discuss their doubts and concerns.
Both sessions concluded with the distribution of sanitary pads, sponsored by Niine India, underscoring the importance of practical support alongside education.
The event demonstrated IIM Bodh Gaya’s commitment to social welfare and its proactive approach to addressing pressing issues within the community. By combining education with tangible resources, the initiative sought to empower young girls and promote awareness on menstrual hygiene management.
