Patna: Bihar’s Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has written a detailed letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding equal recognition and benefits for paramilitary personnel akin to those extended to the Indian Army.
In his letter, Tejashwi Yadav highlighted what he described as “clear discrimination” against paramilitary forces including the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, and Assam Rifles, particularly concerning honours, compensation, and social security for martyrs and their families.
“While the Indian Army martyrs receive compensation, respect, and government support, the families of paramilitary martyrs continue to face neglect,” Yadav wrote, urging the Home Minister to address these disparities.
The RJD leader put forward several key demands:
- Classification of paramilitary martyrs as ‘Battle Casualty’ to ensure equal compensation.
- Equal rights for martyrs’ families from paramilitary forces and the Army regarding government jobs, pensions, and other benefits.
- Automatic implementation of a liberalised pension scheme for paramilitary martyrs’ families.
- Extension of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme to paramilitary personnel serving under similar conditions as Army soldiers.
Tejashwi Yadav’s letter comes amid ongoing debates about the welfare and recognition of paramilitary forces, who play a crucial role in India’s internal security but often feel sidelined in terms of benefits.
