Tejashwi Yadav Promises Free Electricity up to 200 Units if RJD Government is Formed
Samastipur: Bihar’s Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has promised free electricity for up to 200 units if his government comes to power. He made this statement while addressing the media during the Karyakarta Samvad Yatra program in Samastipur on Wednesday. Yadav emphasized that people are distressed by the rising electricity bills and the controversial introduction of prepaid meters, which has drawn widespread complaints.
“People are burdened with incorrect electricity bills. If our government is formed, we will solve this problem. We are listening to the voices of our party workers through the Karyakarta Samvad Yatra and are deeply concerned about the welfare of the people and the future of Bihar.”
He further highlighted that Bihar has the highest poverty rate, low per capita income, and leads in migration, citing a Niti Aayog report and estimates that three to five crore people from Bihar migrate for work. Yadav accused the “double-engine government” – referring to the state and central governments – of failing Bihar over the last 20 years. “Despite having ministers at the center, they haven’t secured special status for Bihar,” he added.
Yadav also accused the BJP of spreading misinformation, particularly regarding Rahul Gandhi’s stance on reservation. “BJP is a party of liars. Rahul Gandhi has pledged not to end reservation, he supports conducting a caste census, and is committed to preserving the Constitution. Meanwhile, the BJP has been trying to undermine the Constitution,” Yadav remarked.
When questioned about the allegations against former DGP Singhal, Yadav stated, “The investigation is ongoing, and the court will decide the matter.”
Reacting to Tejashwi Yadav’s announcement of free electricity, JDU chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar responded sharply, claiming that Yadav’s promise acknowledges Bihar’s shift from the “lantern era” to the “electricity era.” “You are the same people who offered jobs in exchange for land. We provide more grants than your father’s government ever had in its budget. Other states are now learning from Bihar’s use of prepaid meters,” Kumar said.
Tejashwi Yadav’s ‘Karyakarta Samvad Yatra’ began on 10th September, ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly elections. Two months earlier, Yadav had hinted at tough decisions and possible changes in ticket allocation, signaling that the party might replace up to 21 sitting MLAs. His tour is drawing significant attention as it serves as a platform for gathering feedback. The party has issued strict instructions limiting attendance to only invited members, with a ban on discussions about candidature during the meetings.
