Thick Fog Brings Bihar to a Halt: Flights, Trains, and Roads Disrupted

Patna: The return of dense fog in Bihar over the past two days has caused significant disruptions to air, rail, and road transport. Low visibility has delayed flights, halted train schedules, and slowed vehicular movement, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated.

On Tuesday, flight operations from Darbhanga Airport to Mumbai and Bengaluru were suspended, while several other routes faced delays. At Patna Airport, two Indigo flights were diverted due to poor visibility. Flight 6E 513, scheduled to land in Patna at 8:30 pm, was rerouted to Lucknow. Similarly, Flight 6E 5008, en route to Patna, was diverted back to Delhi.

Darbhanga Airport also witnessed disruptions, with flights to Kolkata and Hyderabad delayed by approximately an hour. Out of eight scheduled flights on Tuesday, only three routes—Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad—remained operational, carrying a total of 1,106 passengers. Flights on the Delhi route were the most frequent, with four departures, while Kolkata and Hyderabad saw two flights each.

Passengers, particularly women, children, and the elderly, bore the brunt of the delays caused by the severe cold and fog. Officials attribute the disruption to persistently low visibility, which is expected to continue affecting flight services for the next two days.

Train schedules across the state were also severely impacted, with many running behind time. On the roads, thick fog forced drivers to reduce speed, further slowing down daily activities.

Meteorologists warn that the current weather conditions are unlikely to improve soon, with fog and cold expected to persist, prolonging travel disruptions across the region.
