Patna: Three people, including a ward member, were killed and four others sustained serious burn injuries after lightning struck multiple locations in Bihar’s Bhojpur district during rainfall on Monday, according to local officials.
The incidents occurred as thunderstorms accompanied monsoon rain swept through parts of the district. Authorities said the victims were struck by lightning at different locations, triggering emergency rescue efforts.
Three Killed in Separate Incidents
According to officials, three people died on the spot after being struck by lightning. Among those killed was a ward member of a gram panchayat.
The identities of the victims had not been officially released at the time of reporting.
Four Undergoing Treatment
Local residents rushed to the affected areas and helped move the injured to nearby hospitals before emergency services arrived.
According to officials, four people who suffered severe burn injuries are receiving treatment under medical supervision. Hospital authorities said their condition is reported to be critical.
Administration Begins Relief Process
Officials from the district administration reached the affected locations after receiving information about the incidents and reviewed the situation.
According to the administration, directions have been issued to ensure appropriate medical treatment for the injured. Officials also said the process of extending government assistance to the families of those who died has been initiated.
Monsoon Brings Increased Lightning Risk
Lightning-related fatalities are reported across Bihar every year during the monsoon season, when thunderstorms become more frequent. Disaster management authorities regularly advise people to avoid open fields, trees and water bodies during lightning activity and to remain indoors whenever possible.
