Patna: After days of rising heat, Bihar is likely to witness a change in weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for thunderstorms and rain across the state. An Orange Alert has been sounded for all 38 districts, with 10 districts likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph.
According to the weather department, 28 districts, including Patna, have been placed under a Yellow Alert for light rain and gusty winds. Cloudy conditions and intermittent showers are expected to bring some relief from the heat. In Patna, the temperature may drop by up to 3 degrees Celsius due to the changing weather conditions.
Meteorologists said the weather pattern across Bihar is expected to remain unstable over the next few days, with strong winds and scattered rain likely in several parts of the state.
In Begusarai, dense fog was reported on Friday morning, indicating a shift in weather conditions. Over the past 24 hours, Kaimur recorded the highest temperature in the state at around 37 degrees Celsius. Patna also witnessed intense sunshine during the day.
Weather experts said the sudden change is primarily due to moisture-laden winds coming from the Bay of Bengal and an active trough line passing over the region. Rising daytime temperatures have also increased atmospheric instability, creating favourable conditions for thunderstorms and rain.
The meteorological department has warned that wind speeds during thunderstorms may reach 40 to 60 kmph, which could lead to falling tree branches, damaged hoardings, and possible disruption of electricity supply. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and rain.
In Patna, the sky is expected to remain cloudy during the day, while light rain accompanied by strong winds may occur in the evening or night. The maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, offering some respite from the heat, although humidity levels may remain high.
