Patna : Passenger trains will begin operating on Bihar’s Neura–Daniyawan–Barbigha rail line from July, with the new route expected to ease congestion and reduce travel times across the region. The line, currently in the final stages of construction, could be inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi.
Alongside the new line, the Indian Railways has completed the doubling and electrification of the Kiul–Gaya section—a significant infrastructure upgrade that will allow trains to run at speeds of up to 130km/h, up from the current limit of 75km/h. Officials said the improvement could cut travel time between Kiul and Gaya by up to 90 minutes.
The developments were announced at a press conference on Wednesday by Nawada MP Vivek Thakur and Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Chaudhary. They also revealed plans to construct 10 rail overbridges between Nawada and Gaya, a move expected to benefit both train passengers and road users.
“Trains will now arrive in Gaya significantly earlier than before,” said Chaudhary. “This is a major enhancement for regional connectivity.”
Rail authorities said the Kiul–Gaya section, previously considered a backup option, will now function as a main line, with services running not only between Kiul and Gaya but also on long-distance routes such as Delhi–Howrah.
As part of the Amrit Bharat scheme, Nawada station is also set to receive a major revamp, with plans to transform it into a modern, “world-class” railway hub.
Senior railway officials including additional DRM Aadhar Raj and senior DCM Abhinav Siddharth were present at the event.
