Nawada: In Nawada district of Bihar, two home guard jawans have been arrested for their involvement in liquor smuggling. The arrests happened after an Innova car filled with liquor was seized at the Chitrakoli checkpost under Rajauli police station area. While the smugglers managed to escape in the dark, the police caught the jawans who were helping them.
Excise Superintendent Arun Kumar Mishra said that every vehicle from Jharkhand is checked carefully due to the liquor ban in Bihar. On Monday night around 8.30 pm, home guard Rahul Kumar, posted with the excise force, was returning to Nawada when an Innova car approached. Excise SI Praveen Kumar asked him to get down so the vehicle could be checked, but the two smugglers tried to drive away.
The excise team chased them and seized the car at Kundla Mohalla. Inside, they found 72 litres of liquor of five different brands packed in eight cartons. During interrogation, Rahul Kumar revealed that he was helping the smugglers on the instructions of home guard Ranjit Kumar, who was posted in the transport department.
Police later arrested Ranjit Kumar from his in-laws’ village in Nardiganj. Both arrested jawans were sent to court after their medical check-up. The Excise Superintendent said FIRs have been filed against the two jawans, the smugglers who ran away, and the car owner under the Bihar Excise Act. Officials warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in liquor smuggling.
