Patna: A delegation from the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries has met Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in New Delhi and requested the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp to mark the organisation’s centenary year.
The meeting took place at Sanchar Bhawan, where Chamber President P. K. Agrawal and Executive Committee member Sumit Kumar represented the delegation and submitted a written request to the Union Minister.
Centenary Recognition Proposal
During the discussion, the delegation highlighted the Chamber’s 100-year journey and sought formal recognition through a special postal stamp. The Union Minister reportedly acknowledged the request and discussed broader developments in the communications sector.
The Chamber representatives also raised issues related to trade, commerce, and industrial development in Bihar during the interaction.
Discussion on Trade and Digital Initiatives
According to information shared after the meeting, Scindia spoke about ongoing reforms and digital initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Communications aimed at improving transparency and accessibility in trade and industry processes.
He also referred to his family’s historical association with chambers of commerce, noting that the Madhya Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries was established by his ancestors in 1902, adding that this background helps him understand the role of such institutions in economic development.
Cultural Exchange and Art References
The conversation also included references to cultural heritage, including Bihar’s Madhubani painting tradition. Scindia reportedly compared it with Madhya Pradesh’s Chanderi weaving, stating that both represent significant contributions to India’s cultural and economic identity.
Invitation to Patna Visit
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chamber extended an invitation to Scindia to attend the centenary celebrations in Patna as the chief guest. The Union Minister accepted the invitation in principle and indicated that he would attempt to visit the city in September 2026 after parliamentary commitments.
Chamber office-bearers expressed satisfaction over the assurance, describing the interaction as constructive and positive.
