Vaishali: In a devastating accident early Tuesday morning, four women from the same family, including the bride, were killed after their car was hit by a speeding truck on the Jandaha–Samastipur National Highway in Vaishali district. The mishap occurred near Pansala Chowk in the Mahisaur police station area around 4 AM.
Three others — including the groom, the bride’s brother-in-law, and the driver — sustained serious injuries and have been referred to PMCH, Patna after receiving initial treatment at Vaishali Sadar Hospital.
Fatal Journey After Wedding Farewell
According to the police, the family was returning home after the bidaai ceremony following the wedding of Dinanath Kumar, a resident of Panapur Kushiyari village under Bidupur police station limits. The wedding took place on Monday in Navgachiya, and the group was traveling back in a private car when the accident occurred.
The speeding truck, reportedly out of control, rammed into the car near Pansala Chowk. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, killing four occupants on the spot.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as:
- Babita Devi, wife of Kranti Kumar
- Sonakshi Kumari (8), daughter of Babita and Kranti Kumar
- Mona Devi, wife of Ganesh Rai and an Anganwadi assistant
- Bride, name yet to be confirmed
The injured include:
- Dinanath Kumar, the groom
- Kranti Kumar, relative of the groom
- Nikhil Kumar, the driver
Police Launch Search for Truck Driver
Mahisaur Police Station officials confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene after the collision. “The bodies have been taken into custody and sent for postmortem. Efforts are on to trace the truck and its driver. An investigation is underway,” said the Station House Officer.
Wedding Turns into Mourning
What was meant to be a joyful return home after a wedding turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy. As news of the accident reached Panapur Kushiyari, a wave of shock and grief spread through the village. Residents gathered outside the groom’s home, where celebration had suddenly turned to mourning.
At Vaishali Sadar Hospital, there was chaos as relatives of the victims arrived in disbelief, struggling to come to terms with the loss.
