Vaishali : The Bihar government has begun preparations for the International Buddhist Conference 2026, scheduled to take place in Vaishali from December 11 to 13. Bihar Art and Culture Department Secretary Pranav Kumar reviewed the arrangements at a meeting on Thursday and directed officials to ensure that preparations are completed within the stipulated time.

The three-day conference will be held at the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa complex. The review meeting focused on coordination among departments and arrangements for security, transport, road traffic management, uninterrupted electricity supply, healthcare services and facilities for domestic and international delegates.

Officials were instructed to work together to ensure that the event proceeds smoothly and that visitors receive the necessary assistance throughout the conference.

Security, Transport And Visitor Facilities Under Review

The meeting examined arrangements required to manage the expected movement of delegates, officials and visitors during the conference. Security measures, traffic regulation and transport facilities were among the key issues discussed.

Officials also reviewed the need for an uninterrupted power supply and adequate healthcare services at the venue. Arrangements for accommodating and assisting domestic and international guests were discussed as part of the broader preparations.

Pranav Kumar stressed the importance of completing the required work on schedule and maintaining coordination among the departments involved in organising the event.

Religious Ceremonies And Academic Sessions Planned

The proposed programme includes Tripitaka recitation, religious ceremonies, academic sessions, a tourism roundtable, cultural programmes and heritage tours.

The conference is expected to bring together participants interested in Buddhist philosophy, religious traditions, history and cultural heritage. The academic sessions are intended to provide a platform for discussion, while the cultural programmes and heritage tours will introduce visitors to the region’s historical and religious significance.

The tourism roundtable is also expected to provide an opportunity to discuss the potential for promoting Buddhist heritage tourism in Bihar.

The detailed programme and arrangements for individual sessions are part of the preparations being coordinated by the concerned departments.

Vaishali’s Importance In Buddhist Heritage

Vaishali holds an important place in Buddhist history and is associated with the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. Its historical sites and Buddhist heritage make it a significant destination for pilgrims, researchers and visitors interested in the history of the religion.

Hosting an international conference in the district is expected to provide a platform to highlight this heritage and promote the region as a destination for Buddhist tourism.

The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa complex will serve as the venue for the three-day event, bringing the conference’s discussions and activities to a site closely associated with the region’s Buddhist identity.

Senior Officials Attend Preparatory Meeting

The review meeting was attended by Museum Directorate Director Krishna Kumar, Art and Culture Department Joint Secretary Mahmood Alam, Building Construction Department Additional Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Bihar Heritage Development Committee Executive Director Professor Anil Kumar.

Complex Additional Director Dr Vimal Tiwari, Vaishali Deputy Development Commissioner, Hajipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate and other officials were also present.

The departments will continue coordinating preparations ahead of the December conference, with the administration focusing on timely completion of work and arrangements for participants.

The event is scheduled to run from December 11 to 13, 2026.
