Vaishali: Man Dies After Police Pursuit, Angry Villagers Attack Patrol Team
Hajipur: A man apprehended by the police in an allegedly drunken state died in the Mahua police station area of Vaishali, triggering violent protests from locals. The police patrol team involved in the incident was attacked and held hostage, and their vehicle was vandalized by an angry mob.
The incident took place in Jalalpur village, where 50-year-old Rajendra Paswan, a resident of Karhatiya Bujurg village, was caught by the police. According to the officials, Paswan began to flee upon spotting the patrol and died after collapsing. The police, led by ASI Bhuneshwar Ram, reported that Paswan was about 250 meters away from their vehicle when the incident occurred.
Following Paswan’s death, outraged villagers assaulted the police team, locking them in a room. Mahua SDPO Saurabh Suman arrived with reinforcements and worked to pacify the crowd, even speaking to Paswan’s family with folded hands in an effort to ease the tension.
During the altercation, a constable was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Mahua Subdivision Hospital. The police jeep was damaged in the violence. Senior officers have since reached the area to manage the situation, and the Vaishali Police have stated that the situation is now under control.
