Video of Celebratory Firing at Housewarming Function in Patna Goes Viral, Police Launch Probe

Patna: A video showing celebratory firing during a housewarming ceremony in the Bikram police station area of Patna has surfaced online, prompting a police investigation. In the footage, a man can be seen firing a rifle into the air while people around him appear to be celebrating.
Confirming the development, DSP-2 Umeshwar Chaudhary of Paliganj subdivision said the video has been taken seriously and the local police station has been directed to probe the incident. “Efforts are underway to identify the exact village and the date of the incident. The police station in-charge has been instructed to carry out a detailed investigation,” he said.
Weapon License Under Scrutiny
Police officials are also trying to ascertain the identity of the individual seen firing the weapon in the video. “We are investigating whether the weapon used was licensed or illegal,” DSP Chaudhary added.
So far, no formal complaint has been registered in the local police station regarding the incident. However, the police have initiated a suo motu investigation based on the video evidence.
Celebratory Firing Strictly Prohibited in Bihar
Celebratory firing is strictly banned in Bihar, regardless of whether the weapon is licensed or not. The Patna police have reiterated that such acts are punishable under the law, citing past cases where similar incidents have led to fatalities.
Police have appealed to the public to refrain from such dangerous displays during celebrations and have warned of strict legal action against violators.
