Vaishali: A series of anti-corruption operations by the vigilance department has led to multiple arrests of government officials in Bihar’s Vaishali district, triggering concern within administrative circles.

Officials said employees from various departments — including police personnel, revenue staff and data entry operators — have been caught allegedly accepting bribes in recent weeks as part of a sustained crackdown.

In the latest case on March 30, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, an assistant sub-inspector posted at Patepur police station, was arrested while allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 from a complainant. The action followed a complaint by Chandan Kumar, who alleged that a bribe was being demanded for assistance in filing a case diary.

After verification, a vigilance team set up a trap and apprehended the officer.

Earlier, on March 25, vigilance officials conducted a raid at a mining department office and arrested data entry operator Rahul Kumar Roshan and sub-inspector Pramod Kumar while allegedly accepting Rs 50,000. The operation followed a complaint from staff at a private firm regarding a bribe demand linked to a gravel storage licence.

In another case on January 6, revenue employee Rajesh Roshan was caught allegedly taking Rs 5,000 near Raghavapur temple. The arrest was made after a complaint by a local resident, Vinay Kumar Singh.

Officials said the series of arrests indicates that vigilance authorities are expanding their focus across departments where corruption complaints have been reported.

The repeated actions have reportedly created unease among government employees, particularly those suspected of engaging in bribery. Authorities have indicated that similar operations will continue as part of efforts to curb corruption in public offices.
