West Champaran: In a shocking act of violence in West Champaran, Bihar, Kameshwar Sahani, 40, a local leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Friday morning. The attack took place in Tinkoni village, under the jurisdiction of Darpa police station in Raxaul.
According to local reports, Sahani, who served as the block president of the Chhodadanon area, was attacked while washing his hands after relieving himself. Three armed men, riding two motorcycles, opened fire, killing him on the spot. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with villagers gathering at the scene following the attack.
Sahani was known to have a criminal record and had previously been involved in Naxalite activities. The Raxaul deputy superintendent of police, Manish Anand, confirmed that multiple police units, along with a dog squad, have arrived in Tinkoni to investigate the case. “The matter is under investigation,” Anand said.
The murder comes shortly after the VIP suffered a humiliating defeat in the recent Bihar elections, failing to secure a single seat despite Mukesh Sahani’s aspirations for the deputy chief minister position. The incident adds to a sense of political disappointment and unrest within the party.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive and are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
