Nawada/Patna: A devastating road accident in Bihar’s Nawada district turned a night of celebration into one of mourning, after a car carrying five people returning from a wedding was struck by a truck near Konia turn, close to Kadirganj. The crash claimed the lives of three men on the spot and left two others critically injured.
The group, all from Chhoti Pali village, was returning from the wedding procession of Ganesh Vidyarthi’s son in Dhanam village when the collision occurred late on Saturday night.
The victims have been identified as Pankaj Chandravanshi, a former deputy chief, along with Natthun Chandravanshi and Karu Chandravanshi. The injured — Durga Chandravanshi and Jayanandan Chandravanshi — were rushed to Pawapuri Hospital for treatment, after receiving initial aid from Nawada Sadar Hospital. Police said the force of the crash was so severe that the three men died instantly.
The remains of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination. Grief-stricken family members gathered at the accident site and hospital. Murari Prasad, the brother of one of the deceased, Natthun Chandravanshi, said in tears: “I played with Natthun in my arms as a child. Today, I am carrying his body. He had four children, none of them are married yet.”
The entire village has plunged into sorrow, with many mourning the sudden and tragic loss of their loved ones. Local authorities confirmed that the truck driver involved in the accident fled the scene immediately after the crash. “The accident took place while the group was returning from a wedding procession. We have launched an investigation. The absconding driver will be arrested, and strict action will be taken,” said the city police station in-charge of Nalanda.
As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for a night that should have ended in joy, not tragedy.
